Your opening checklist

Phase by phase, from six months out to launch day — print it and work through it.

6+ months out — foundations

  • Business plan with 12-month cash flow (use the estimate above as your starting budget)
  • Register the business, EIN, sales tax permit, business bank account
  • Scout locations — bridal thrives near complementary retail, parking matters more than foot traffic
  • Start designer conversations early: account minimums, territories, and delivery windows shape everything

4–6 months out — the space

  • Negotiate the lease (ask about buildout allowances and free-rent months)
  • Plan the floor: fitting rooms and a raised platform sell gowns, racks just store them
  • Order buildout: lighting is the highest-ROI line item in a bridal store
  • Place your opening sample orders — gowns take 4–6 months to arrive

2–4 months out — operations

  • Set up your operating system: booking, deposits, inventory, POS, customer records — one system, not five
  • Configure online booking with deposits from day one (retrofitting a policy later is much harder)
  • Payment processing, card reader, and payment plans for larger sales
  • Hire and train your first stylist(s) on consultations, not just transactions

0–2 months out — launch

  • Google Business Profile, website with booking link, Instagram with your gown arrivals
  • Soft-launch: friends-and-family appointments to rehearse the full flow
  • Grand opening event with local vendors (photographers, planners, florists — your referral network)
  • Track every appointment source from day one so you know what marketing works
